Explore Pelion
Pelio, Magnesia’s mountain, is near the city of Volos. It is an ideal holiday destination all year round as it combines mountain with sea.
Pelion enchants even the most discerning visitors with its multiple "faces"! In autumn, its colorful forests offer the best place for walking, relaxation and tranquility. In winter, the mountain is "dressed" in white and the Hania ski resort becomes a reference point. In springtime, the natural beauty is revealed in all its glory, as the landscape is full of colorful wild flowers and blooming trees. During summer, Pelio puts on its “island” mask when the picturesque villages and beautiful beaches attract numerous tourists.
Those who love alternative tourism will love this destination as it offers several options amongst a variety of activities, including hiking, climbing, horse riding or mountain biking, scuba diving and sailing.
This mountain’s slopes are decorated with small picturesque villages of unique architecture! In the northwest side there are Portaria and Makrynitsa cosmopolitan villages.
Portaria combines Pelio villages’ picturesque features with a more cosmopolitan and touristic "character". Here you will find numerous hotels and traditional inns, taverns and restaurants; famous for their spirited local cuisine; cafés, bars and souvenir shops.
The famous village of Makrynitsa keeps intact the traditional architecture of the region. The picturesque mansions, the little stone houses and stone bridges harmoniously fit to this village’s tall trees and flowery "corners". Makrynitsa is justifiably called "Pelio’s Balcony", offering stunning views over to Pagassitikos Gulf and the city of Volos. In the village of Makrynitsa you will find hotels and traditional B&Bs, taverns with local food, cafés and bars.
A visit to Milies, Pinakates and Vyzitsa villages is highly recommended to admire their unique mansions. The less popular villages such as Agios Lavrentios (Saint Lawrence) and Agios Georgios Nileias (Saint George Nileias), nearby, attract more "sophisticated" visitors.
The eastern Pelio, with reference point Tsagarada’s village, is getting more and more popular and is mainly preferred by lovers, as it is ideal for strolls and activities surrounded by nature.
In the southern Pelio, hamlets like Trikeri are ideal summer destinations as they are characterized by their beautiful beaches with crystal clear waters. Combining quaint villages with sceneries of breathtaking natural beauty, Pelio, the mountain of Centaurs, is rightly one of the most popular destinations in Greece during the four seasons!
Pelio, besides its picturesque villages which climb up the mountain’s verdant slopes, it is also known for some of the most beautiful beaches in Greece! Breathtaking beaches with turquoise, green or deep blue waters, golden sand or white pebbles are waiting to be discovered!
On the side of the Aegean Sea there are: Mylopotamos beach, Fakistra beach, Agios Ioannis beach, Pappa Nero beach, Potistika beach, Paltsi beach, Melani beach, Katigiorgis beach, Mourtias beach and Damouhari beach.
On the Pagassitikos Gulf you will find: Mpoufa beach, Afissos beach, Kala Nera beach, Pau beach, Kalamos beach and Lefokastro beach.
