Charming Epidavros is lazily perched in the eastern part of Argolida, at the foot of Arachnaio, Korifaio and Tithio mountains. According to legend, Asclepius, god of medicine, was born here. Beautiful beaches, tree-covered slopes and historic monuments of great importance set the scene in this idyllic spot.
The city is divided in Palaia (Old / Ancient) and Nea (New) Epidavros. Palaia Epidavros is a small and quiet fishing village, built amphitheatrically over the ruins of the ancient city. Benchmark in Palaia Epidavros is the picturesque waterfront, which is ideal for relaxing walks, overlooking the sailboats and the colorful boats. If you are an incurable romantic, it is worth taking a walk on the Island; a peninsula which divides in two the beach, and enjoying a beautiful sunset! On the island a small ancient theater where every summer interesting musical performances are hosted lies. It is worth attending the Agrotourism Festival of Epidavros, which takes place every summer, giving the opportunity to tens of participants to present their products in an outdoor exhibition in the picturesque harbor of Palaia Epidavros.
Equally charming is the historic New Epidavros, which unfolds over rocky slopes, near Vothyla canyon. There, stands the square where the First National Assembly of the Greek state took place.
Undoubtedly, Epidavros name is inevitably linked to the magnificent archaeological site. There, important monuments such as the Asklepieion, the Archaeological Museum of Epidavros and, of course, the famous ancient theater; one of the major architectural masterpieces of ancient Greece, dominate. Attending a performance at the Ancient Theatre, under the internationally renowned Epidavros Festival, is a unique experience not to be missed!
If you are fan of exploring nature and excursing, it is worth hiking or cycling through the beautiful trails of the Old Epidavros, leading either to several beaches or archaeological sites.
At Epidavros, this seductive city with the "heavy" historical and cultural heritage, mountains masterfully blend with the sea, creating a "corner" of indescribable natural beauty which captivates visitors, all year round!
At Epidavros, you will find many beautiful, mostly, sandy beaches.
In the beautiful Gialasi beach there are sun loungers, café/bars and restaurants. The beach is ideal for water sports. If you love tranquility, you will fell in love with Gliati beach. One of the most beautiful beaches in the area is the beach of Vagionià, unfolding in a green background. Equally beautiful is Kalamaki beach, surrounded by a spectacular pine forest.
In New Epidavros, you will find the beach of Nea Epidavros, as well as the beach of Aliotou. Between Palia (Old) and Nea (New) Epidavros, in Polemarchas hermitage, you will find two beautiful, secluded beaches.

How to get there
From Athens
Travelling by car
To reach the town of Old Epidaurus you can drive from Athens via the National Highway from Athens to Corinth (123 km distance - 1 hours & 40 minutes ride). You will take the exit to Corinth and Epidaurus and you will turn left to Epidaurus. You will pass the villages of Loutra Oreas Elenis, of Sofiko and you will keep driving on the same route until you reach Old Epidaurus.
Travelling by bus
To reach the town of Old Epidaurus, you can also take the Intercity Bus (KTEL Bus of Argolis)via the town of Nafplion (40 minutes ride from Nafplion). For more information on the bus routes of KTEL Bus of Argolis click here.
From Patra
Travelling by car
To reach Epidaurus from Patras, you will drive via the National Highway from Patras to Corinth (182 km distance - 3 hours ride approximately). After passing Corinth, you will take the exit to Epidaurus and Loutraki and at the first intersection you will turn right to Epidaurus. Following the signs, you will reach your destination.
From Kalamata
Travelling by car
To reach Epidaurus from Kalamata, you will drive via the new National Highway from Kalamata to Tripoli (181 km distance - 2 hours & 30 minutes ride approximately). Once you pass Tripoli and for the next 38 km approximately on the same route, you will take the exit to Argos - Nafplio and follow the signs until you reach the town of Argos and then the signs to the city of Nafplio. Epidaurus is just 36 km away from Nafplio and the signs on your way are very clear.
