Holidays in Tinos island

The name of Tinos island has been identified with the majestic church of Panagia and its glorious celebration every mid-August. In addition to its religious identity, Tinos hides priceless "treasures", waiting to be discovered!

Both capital and main port of Tinos is Chóra. Do not get disappointed by its first image; Tinos knows how to hide well its secrets and only reveals them as a surprise to the visitor! Chóra’s trademark is the impressive church of Panagia of Tinos, which prominently dominates. Among the major attractions of Chóra, the Archaeological Museum of Tinos, the Cultural Foundation of Tinos, the Monument of "Elli", the Weaving House and the Cathedral of the Archangels are included. You can walk across the “old road” with its countless shops and marble Kato Vrysi and "lose yourself" in the old neighborhoods of Pallada and Agios Eleftherios-Vary. Regarding its nightlife, except for the cafés on the beach side, you will find, scattered through the streets of Chóra, stylishly bars for all tastes. If you seek for an alternative place to have a drink, just outside the island’s capital, you will find an original bar, built around a mill.

During your stay in Tinos, you should not miss visiting the magnificent village of Pyrgos, which is lazily perched in the western part of the island. There, the house-museum of Giannoulis Halepas; a renowned Greek sculptor; the Museum of Panormos’ Artists and the Marble Sculpture School are found. Do not leave the village without enjoying a coffee on the coals or having delicious galaktomboureko sweet under the plane trees of the square.

Pyrgos seaport and also Tinos old port is Panormos; one of the most idyllic "corners" of the island. In this picturesque harbor, you can enjoy your food or coffee, watching the sea as well as the opposite Planitis islet.

Continue your journey with a visit to the enigmatic Volakas or Volax village. There, a surprise awaits you; massive, round rocks, spring up from nowhere, creating a bizarre image, the like of which does not exist! In the village, you will find a stone theater, which, during summer months, hosts cultural events. Volax is famous for its taverns with excellent food, as well as for its basketry workshops.

In the southeast, wooded slope of Kechrovouni, Dyo Chorià, one of the prettiest villages of the island, is perched. This village together with Triantaros village, are classified as "the balconies of Tinos”, due to their disarming views to the endless blue sea and the neighboring Cycladic islands. The beautiful square with trees and bougainvilleas, the cobbled streets, the picturesque arches and xinaria (springs) will take you to a magical world!

You will come across similar sceneries in Triantaros. In this charming small village you will have the opportunity to taste exquisite dishes which combine traditional products with gourmet tastes!

Tinos is ideal for hiking, as it has marked trails, which cross villages, passing by lush natural environments with streams and ending in beautiful beaches.

On this island of faith and art, the amazing dovecotes, the picturesque mills, the stone walls, the old monasteries, the great archaeological sites, the marvelous museums, the verdant valleys, the rare geological formations and the paradisiacal beaches create a place full of unexpected surprises! So, if you belong to exploration lovers, then Tinos is the island that suits you best...

Beaches

The surprises of Tinos do not stop at its fairytale villages. The Tinian sea promises unique experiences as well.

On the south side of the island, you will find the quiet Santa Margarita beach with emerald waters. On the same side, there is Agios Sostis beach, which offers beautiful views over Mykonos, as well as the organized beach of Agios Fokas. In the southwestern part of Tinos, Agios Markos beach, with crystal waters, unfolds. A bit further down there is the cosmopolitan beach of Kionia, with views on Syros island.

On the west coast, you will find the sandy beach of Agios Romanos as well as the "exotic" beach of Apigania. In Kardiani, you will find the beaches of Agios Petros, Kalyvia and Giannakis Bay. Do not leave the island without enjoying the glorious sunset! During the days with north wind, the ideal choice is the sheltered beach of Schoinaki, unfolding next to Isternia Bay. If you are in love or a hopeless romantic, you will love Mallí beach, which unfolds in the northwestern part of Tinos. The picturesque bay with the few houses, combined with the beautiful views of Andros island, compose a cinematic scenery!

On the eastern coast, in a beautiful natural environment, unfolds Livàda beach. Do not be afraid if while you are sunbathing, a cute sheep is standing next to you! On the same side of the island, the two beaches of Kolympithra, with Drakonisi islet dominating in the middle of the bay, unfold. The small beach is more popular and organized, while quieter rhythms prevail at the big one. If you pass the rocks, you will find a pond with ducks and turtles! Beautiful beaches you will also find in Panormos. At the left of Panormos lies the idyllic Agia Thalassa (Holy Sea), whilst on Panormos right, you will find the organized beach of Rohari, overlooking the North Aegean Sea.
