Holidays in Kimolos island
Kimolos, the unpretentious charming neighbor of Milos, belongs to the Cyclades Complex. In this small speck of land, an untouched paradise is waiting to unfold its wonderful secrets!
Capital of Kimolos is Chorió, which lies at the foot of Xaplovouni mount around the imposing medieval Castle. The white houses with the blue shutters and flowery gardens, the cobbled streets with hearts and butterfly designs, the white churches with the blue domes and the old windmills compose a captivating "corner" which seems to have sprung out of a fairytale! Chorió center is the medieval Castle; a fortified settlement with unique architecture. The Castle contains the individual settlements of Mesa and Exo Kastro, interconnected with Portares (passages). Major attractions of Chorió are the Archaeological Museum and Manolis Christoulakis Folk-Maritime Museum. Scattered through this picturesque village there are countless churches, among which the church of Panagia Odigitria (Virgin Mary the Leader), which is Kimolos Cathedral, as well as the churches of Gennisis tou Christou (Christ Nativity) which is inside the Castle and St. John Chrysostom, both of which have been declared as preserved monuments, stand out. In Chorió, you will find traditional café and quaint taverns.
A special "corner" of Kimolos is Goupa fishing village, with the impressive "wires" (areas for boats dug into the rocks). Continue your acquaintance with this island, with a visit to Kalamitsi where you will see, on a rock, a sculpted form; work of an unknown artist.
Kimolos Trademark is famous Skiadi; a unique geological monument in the shape of a huge mushroom! From there, you will have the opportunity to enjoy stunning views of the western and southwestern coast of the island as well as the opposite islands. You can access Skiadi through a path which starts from Chorió.
A unique experience is Kimolos round tour, as well as Polyaigos round. In this small island, you will have the opportunity to admire the bizarre geological formations created by the volcanic lava.
In Kimolos, the windswept mountains, the particular formations of volcanic rocks and the breathtaking beaches with crystal blue waters compose a place of inexhaustible natural beauty, which is rightly considered to be an ideal destination for lovers (but not only)!
Kimolos has excellent beaches, which differ from each other, thereby offering multiple options, covering all tastes.
The best beach on the island is undoubtedly Prasa beach. The all-white, thick sand and turquoise waters create a dreamy scenery! The beach has umbrellas, deck chairs and a beach bar. Near Chorió, you will find Rema, where the rocks form a majestic backdrop. In Rematonisa you can swim in front of the famous "wires". The experience will be unforgettable!
On the southern coast of Kimolos, you will find the extensive beaches of Alikí, Bonatsa and Kalamitsi.
In western Kimolos, in Ellinika beach, lies the ancient sunken city of the island. Use your mask to see the houses, the walls and wells which have been falling asleep under the water for many centuries! In this region, there is Aspragkremna, with its famous fossils. From there, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a breathtaking sunset!
One of the most beautiful beaches is the amazing Mavrospilia. It is also worth diving into the blue waters of Gerakias Cave, which dominates the northern part of the island and is accessible by boat. An alternative option is to visit the neighboring islands of St. George and Polyaigos dominating opposite to Psathi.
