Archaeological Site of Akrotiri

An important attraction of Santorini is the covered Archaeological Site of Akrotiri, located in the southwestern part of the island, 15 kilometers away from Fira. Rightly among the most important archaeological sites in Greece, as it is a prehistoric settlement area of ​​200 acres, with outstanding urban planning and impressive architecture, it has beautiful frescoes as well as a sewage system. These evidences reflect the high standard of the past inhabitants of Akrotiri. Some of the important finds brought to light by excavations are hosted today at the Museum of Prehistoric Thera, at Fira.
